2009 Summer Camp to Vancouver, Canada Under the leadership of Chen Hong, director of the International department of Yuhua Education Investment Co., Ltd, students from our primary school and middle school spent their summer camp in Canada. Their English improved greatly in a real English environment and their horizons were broadened. City center: Vancouver is the third largest city of Canada, the third largest port of North America, with the freight station of international trade and is host city to the 2010 Winter Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. It has been rated as the best city in which to live many times. Canada Place with port, British Columbia Conference Centre, old architectural cathedral in Georgia street and the central library in the east side of the street are the representatives of modern architectural arts. Whistler: Whistler is known world-wide as a skiing resort in winter time, and the 2010 Winter Olympic Games will be held here. You’ll enjoy your way from Vancouver to Whistler by the Sea To Sky Highway. Whistler wins the best skiing holiday location almost every year. Summer here is also marvellous. Mountain climbing, cycling and golf are the most popular summer outdoor activities. Richmond: It’s a city of British Columbia (BC), near the Pacific Ocean. It’s the gateway for early Japanese fishermen to emigrate to Canada. Nowadays it is the living area for most Chinese people. After the visit to the artful Granville Island, we visited English Bay: the beach and sailing boats are the scenic line of Canada. Then to English Bay which was the place where Captain George Vancouver and Spanish Captains Valdes and Galiano met to exchange information after George Vancouver first landed in Vancouver. Now it’s the most famous bay in Canada: the “North Pole Bear” winter swimming, peace or anti-war celebrations and other big activities are held here or at the nearby Sunset beach. Many sports lovers play beach volleyball here. The green grass nearby is a good place for playing 'frisbees' and having picnics. Stanley Park: One of the most beautiful city parks in Canada. It’s covered with forest and surrounded on three sides by the sea. It covers an area of 400 hectares. The third largest aquarium---- Vancouver Aquarium Marine Science Centre is housed within the park. Northern Vancouver: We climbed Grouse Mountain, enjoyed the longest cable railway carriage in North America, and searched for traces of endangered species such as grizzly bears and wolves. We watched demonstrations by the lumberjacks, and walked across the world highest suspension bridge. Gas Town: The world's first steam powered clock is located at the crossing of Water St. and Cambie St. Now it is the sign of the coal-gas town. Steam comes out of the clock every 15 minutes, and makes the cover give out a whistle blast, which is very interesting. Then we visited the China Town in Canada. It’s the second largest in North America. The Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Garden surrounded by the tea houses, restaurants, pharmacies and variety stores, with the style of the Ming dynasty is a shinning point here. We also visited some colleges such as UBC, SFU, BCIT, SG and Japanese Gardens, libraries and research centres. We toured the border of America and Canada, the Peace Park and the ice-wine factory, and left our happy footprints on English Bay, Georgia Bay, Burrard Inlet, False Creek and Columbia university beach. We went shopping in Metro Town, the biggest shopping mall in western Canada, and Robson Street, the most popular shopping area with more than 100 years of history; also the Pacific Shopping Centre. The summer camp ended although we were reluctant to say goodbye, but it left us with many beautiful memories, foreign friends and encouraged us to learn English even harder!
